Dons aiming for playoffs place before tough trip to Newport

AFC Wimbledon will hope to continue their promising run of form against Newport County in the Sky bet League Two on Saturday.

The Dons have won their last two matches and are just one point outside the playoff places in 10th position.

Wimbledon are undefeated in their last four meetings with County and the sides drew 2-2 in April.

They travel to South Wales on the back of a 1-0 victory against Morecambe which saw summer acquisition, Adebayo Akinfenwa, score his third goal in two matches.

Newport are unbeaten in their last six league games but defeats in their opening three matches has left them lying 16th.

They come into the contest after a 0-0 league draw against Shrewsbury and a 2-1 defeat against Swindon in the Johnstones Paint trophy, and have found goals hard to come by in recent weeks.

The same cannot be said of Wimbledon’s Matty Tubbs. The 30-year-old has scored eight goals this term, and will hope to add to his tally this weekend.

Harry Pell is available for Wimbledon after serving a three-match ban.

Defender Andy Frampton played in a behind closed doors match last week and could return after eight weeks out with a broken ankle.

The hosts are likely to be without Kevin Feely due to a toe injury.

It may prove to be a tight contest as both sides look to cement a place in the top half of the table.
