Non-League review: Corinthian Casuals enjoy memorable trip to the Channel Islands thanks to Akokhia

Manager James Bracken came back from the Channel Islands on Saturday with a big smile on his face after Corinthian Casuals beat Guernsey 4-2 in Ryman League Division One South.

Two goals in two minutes from Emmanuel Akokhia and strikes from Juevan Spencer and Matt Reece gave them the win to move them up to third.

Guernsey had Jason Dodd sent off for two bookings on the stroke of half time when the game was goalless and they scored twice in the last six meeting to make the score seem closer that it was.

Bracken said: “We know it could have been a lot more.

“But to come here and win 4-2 – if you would have told me before the match that’s what we’ll get, I’d have snapped your hand off and go home with a big smile on my face like we have.

“It could have been more, not with just half chances, but with absolute clear-cut chances, one-on-ones and great saves by their keeper.

“Realistically, if we would have won by seven or eight, you wouldn’t have really argued.”

The three points moved United up to 11th and three points off the play-offs.
