Mika Stojsavljevic stars with stunning Junior Wimbledon win

Mika Stojsavljevic continued a stellar day of British junior success after beating seeded opposition to reach the third round of Junior Wimbledon.

After an impressive opening round win on Sunday, Stojsavljevic – who trains at the LTA’s National Academy in Loughborough – was handed a tough test against fourth seed Lucciana Pérez Alarcón.

But – after compatriots Ranah Stoiber and Mimi Xu had also beaten seeded opponents in their second round matches – the Ealing player became the latest to claim a significant scalp.

The 14-year-old battled past the Peruvian 7-5 1-6 6-2 to seal a third round spot, and revelled in one of the biggest wins of her career.

She said: “Emotions are quite high. It was a long match, and really tight in the third. It was really important to get those two breaks – obviously the last break to win the match. I’m feeling quite good!

“There’s a lot of confidence after that. It feels good to beat someone who is really highly ranked in the world.

“There were a lot of people there, they were all piling in. Especially on match point, everyone was really loud, it was great.”

Perhaps the most impressive part of Stojsavljevic’s performance was her response after dropping the second set, hitting back in fine fashion to keep her campaign alive.

And as she gears up for her clash against 13th seed Emerson Jones, she knows that she needs to trust her aggressive tennis.

“In the second set I think my intensity just dropped – I don’t think she really did anything different, it was more about me,” added Stojsavljevic.

“When I increased my intensity again in the third, she was struggling a lot and I just cruised through the third set. It was more my level that was the issue in the second set.

“I’ll probably just try and be consistently aggressive as I am, just being able to create margins and take balls on tight points.”
