Queues, Pimm’s and strawberries: Young people on Wimbledon

The 2026 Wimbledon Championships have drawn crowds of all generations to south west London.

Among them are 20-somethings embracing everything the tournament has to offer, from mastering the famous queue and following the action on court to enjoying the quintessential Wimbledon traditions of strawberries and cream and a glass of Pimm’s.

While some travelled for the tennis, visitors from abroad were drawn by the atmosphere, the social occasion and the opportunity to take part in a uniquely British summer ritual.

Despite wider pressures on young people’s spending, they described Wimbledon as a summer experience worth investing in and one they hope to return to.

As one of the oldest and most prestigious tennis tournaments in the world, Wimbledon continues to resonate with a new generation.

Its blend of sporting excellence, longstanding traditions and unmistakable summer style ensures the Championships remain as relevant as ever, with young audiences embracing the event in their own way while preserving its timeless appeal.
