Avenue House will play host to a summer party to remember next weekend when the fifth annual Big Lunch gets underway.

The Big Lunch, an existing community initiative led by the Eden Project and partnered by Halifax, aims to bring local communities together and create a feel-good factor in British towns.

And on June 2 the grounds of the Victorian mansion will be opened up for a summer party with a host of activities for local residents to come and get involved in.

There will be a mass Zumba workout in the grounds with local street food traders offering a host of different options for a picnic lunch.

And Malcolm Godfrey, the general manager of Avenue House Estate Trust, is hoping that the Barnet community will come out in full force to enjoy the day out.

“We are trying to encourage Avenue House to be a public community and events like this should be a big help,” he said.

“It’s just a great idea to get involved and in fingers crossed it will be a great day out for everyone who comes down.

“It’s all about involving the local community in these things and we are expecting as many as three or four hundred people to come down and get involved.

“We have a party in the park every year as well and these sorts of things can really bring a community together.”

Since 2009 thousands of Big Lunches have since taken place, with a massive 8.5 million people joining in last summer’s feast, which was part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

A host of people are expected to take part on June 2 this year, on what will be the 60th anniversary of the Queen’s coronation.

And while this is the first year that Avenue House has been involved in the Big Lunch Godfrey cannot wait for weekend to come.

“I have only been running Avenue House since August but this is a big part of what I want to be getting involved in,” he added.

“Spreading the word about the park so more people can come and enjoy it.”

As the proud partner of the Big Lunch, an existing community initiative led by the Eden Project, Halifax is inviting you to get involved and host your own Big Lunch on Sunday 2 June. To find out more or request your free Big Lunch 2013 pack, visit www.thebiglunch.com
