Red Nose Day may have been and gone but that hasn’t stopped Tooting residents fundraising for the cause.

Angela Oliveira, a Zumba teacher in South West London, is hosting a Fusionthon in aid of Red Nose Day at Jasmin’s Club, 202 Upper Tooting Road from 7.15-9.30pm this Wednesday.

Oliveira, 40, hosted a Zumbathon for the charity last year which over 90 people attended and the Portuguese instructor is keen to point out the personal benefits to be had from taking part in the event.

“Some people fall in love with each other, others are just making friends and other people just get hooked finding a different way to exercise,” she said.

“It’s a healthy social event where people do something for charity and, at the same time, they benefit from the exercise. It’s like a party. It’s fun!”

Over 30 people have confirmed their attendance at this year’s event, which challenges participants to dance for two hours non-stop to a disco dance mix, but places are still available with all proceeds going to Red Nose Day.

Oliveira says she would like everyone to contribute around £20 in sponsorship money from friends and family and the charitable endeavour is likely to become a regular annual event in the area.

Whether you speak Portuguese, Spanish, Italian or French as well as English, Oliveira will have it covered as she speaks all five languages and she’s confident her teaching will sync with anyone’s rhythm.

She said: “They have a fantastic workout, they meet people and it becomes a cycle. Next year, they come back again.”
