Sax Appeal: Cancer Research UK fundraiser coming to Clapham

A Cancer Research UK fundraiser featuring a saxophone concert and bingo is coming to Clapham High Street this weekend.

On Friday 5 April, legendary LGBTQ+ venue The Two Brewers will play host to Sax Appeal: Big Nick Energy.

The event has been organised by Nick Brown, the chair of the London Knights Basketball Club and a gifted saxophonist.

He said: “My goal is to not only provide an unforgettable night of entertainment but also to raise awareness and funds for Cancer Research UK.

“The hope is that we can make a meaningful impact in the ongoing fight against cancer which one in two of us are expected to face during our lives.”

Nick Brown, who has organised the fundraiser, will also be running the London Marathon in April

For just £10, or £12 on the door, attendees can see Nick on the saxophone and in the DJ booth.

Interactive events will take place throughout the night, with all proceeds donated towards the fight against cancer.

Party-goers can also take part in ‘Saxy Bingo’, where participants listen out for songs played on the saxophone or by the DJ and try to complete their bingo card.

Nick, who saw both his mother and grandmother beat cancer in 2023, is also running the London Marathon for Cancer Research UK on Sunday 21 April.

Having raised £3,000 so far for the charity, his hope is that this event will help push his total above the £3,500 threshold.

In 2022/23, Cancer Research UK received more than £490 million in fundraising for their mission to beat cancer.
