The National Lottery has launched a Ted Lasso inspired campaign to find the winner of £1million from the draw on 19 August this year.
The winning numbers were bought from a retailer in Richmond upon Thames, but the specific supplier is unknown.
The ticket was bought in person rather than online, meaning it could have been misplaced, leaving the mystery millionaire with just a day left to contact the National Lottery if they have lost it.
Under Allwyn’s regulations, the operator of The National Lottery, a claim without a tangible ticket must be submitted in writing within 30 days of the relevant draw.
Toby Moxham, head of Winners’ Services at Allwyn, said: “Just imagine discovering that a ticket you bought weeks ago is worth seven figures.
“We believe we can find our missing winner, but we need the public to help us.”
This isn’t the first time a winning National Lottery ticket has gone unclaimed in Richmond, back in 2005 an individual missed out on close to £4million.
The winning numbers from the draw were 4, 8, 10, 17, 23 and 28, with 16 as the Bonus Ball.
The winner narrowly missed out on the jackpot prize as they matched five of the six numbers and the bonus ball.
The ticket was bought shortly after the National Lottery announced a new format for its flagship Lotto game, which makes it possible to win twice with one ticket.
The winner from the Lotto draw two weeks prior – 5 August – has also not come forward to claim their £1million prize, their deadline to claim without a ticket passed last week.
The National Lottery made reference to Ted Lasso in photos taken to raise awareness about the unclaimed sum, given that the popular Apple TV+ series was filmed in Richmond.
Residents walking past The Prince’s Head yesterday noticed the Richmond pub was closed, prompting speculation on social media that Ted Lasso season five was being filmed.
We contacted the pub for clarification, but staff could neither confirm nor deny.
Allwyn is urging anyone who bought a Lotto ticket in the area last month to check their ticket, as the National Lottery slogan says: ‘It could be you’.
Maxim said: “If Ted Lasso has taught us anything, it’s the power of believing.”
The winner, if still in possession of their ticket, has an extended deadline until 15 February 2027.
No claims have been made against the ticket so far. Anyone who believes they have the winning ticket should contact the National Lottery Line on 0333 234 5050 or email [email protected] before the deadline.
