A new plastic recycling scheme was unveiled by Camden Mayor Tricia Leman and Fazilette Khan MBE, the founder of GreenSeas Trust, at St Pancras International on Tuesday 28 July.
The striking new initiative, called BinForGreenSeas, aims to increase responsible recycling, and to encourage people to think about where their waste ends up and the effects it has on nature.
Khan said: “Every bottle recycled is one less bottle that can pollute our environment.
“Small actions, repeated by millions of travellers, can make a real difference.”
As one of the busiest transport hubs in Britain, St Pancras International receives 38 million travellers each year, and the programme hopes to make it easier for everyone to take positive action for the environment.
Leman said: “[The project] reflects Camden’s commitment to reducing waste.
“I urge all travellers, commuters, and shoppers passing through St Pancras to take a few moments to recycle any plastic bottles in the GreenSeas Trust recycling bins.”
The ring-lifebuoy shaped bin was funded by City Bridge Foundation and awarded to Camden Council as part of their Climate and Environmental Justice program.
This is the 25th BinForGreenSeas opened by GreenSeas Trust in the UK, preventing over one million plastic bottles from entering our rivers and seas every year.
