Hampstead has been ranked as London’s top dog-friendly place to visit in a new study by dog food company Tails.com.
The study analysed locations across the UK based on factors such as the number of pet-friendly cafes, attractions, and green spaces.
Located 30 minutes from central London by tube, Hampstead placed fifth in the entire country.
Hampstead has 41 dog-friendly attractions, including Hampstead Heath – one of the city’s largest green spaces.
The study noted 78 restaurants and 38 cafes that are dog-friendly in the area.
One example is The Wells Tavern, close to Hampstead Heath and train station.
The pub donates the proceeds of dog items on the menu to StreetVet, a charity that provides care to the pets of those experiencing homelessness.
Richmond trailed just behind Hampstead with a score of 39.27.
The borough ranked highly for its expansive green spaces, such as Richmond Park.
Richmond has 15 dog walking routes and five nearby dog-friendly National Trust sites such as Ham House.
A regular dog walker in Richmond Park, Audrey Thwaites, said: “We’ve been going to Richmond Park for as long as I can remember.
“We used to take our old dog Lola there, and still go now with Dora.
“The park is such an enormous space with so many routes and choices of woodlands and open fields.
“It’s really nice having so much green space close to built-up London.”

- Richmond – 39.27
- Greenwich – 32.83
- Wimbledon – 23.72
- Chiswick – 17.59
Dr Sean McCormack, Head Vet at Tails.com, encouraged owners to prepare for their dog day out.
McCormack said: “A successful day out with your dog starts before you even leave the house.
“Make sure you’ve packed the essentials, including fresh water, a portable bowl, poo bags, a lead and enough of their usual food if you’ll be away over mealtimes.
“Keeping their routine as consistent as possible can help them stay comfortable and avoid digestive upsets.”
