The Pope’s Grotto Preservation Trust has recently unveiled their plinth of Alexander Pope’s head during their open weekends.
The grotto is the last remaining part of his famous villa and gardens which was built in 1720 on the banks of the River Thames.
The ownership of the land has changed hands many times over the years, but after years of hard work the funding from the The National Lottery Heritage Fund was acquired to restore the Grotto.
Since 2016 the grotto has been open to the public to view and has received visitors and enthusiasts from all over the world.
They hold open days throughout the year where the fully restored grotto and the plinth can be seen, link to tickets here.
