England extended their winning run to 10 matches with a ruthless final-quarter surge to beat New Zealand 33-19 in their first home All Blacks win since 2012.
George Ford guided England back into the contest in the Autumn Internationals with two first-half drop-goals after Ollie Lawrence’s try, and Henry Pollock’s late intervention created the opening for Tom Roebuck to seal the result.
The victory ended New Zealand’s Grand Slam bid in this Autumn Series and reinforced England’s growing authority this autumn ahead of hosting Argentina at the Allianz Stadium next weekend.
England came into the match having lost late leads in all three meetings with New Zealand earlier this year.
England trailed 12-0 inside 18 minutes after Fainga’anuku and Taylor finished New Zealand’s first two entries into the home 22.
Lawrence’s powerful finish shifted momentum before Ford’s two drop-goals reduced the interval margin to a single point.
England carried that momentum into the second half as Sam Underhill forced his way over and Fraser Dingwall finished a slick midfield move to open a 25-12 lead.
Will Jordan’s reply narrowed the gap to six points entering the final quarter, but Pollock’s crucial turnover penalty and Ford’s subsequent kick restored England’s authority.
Pollock then hacked ahead a loose ball in midfield for Roebuck to gather and score, securing England’s most significant win under Borthwick.
Unlike their previous meetings with New Zealand this year, England closed the contest with conviction, while the All Blacks now look to regroup before facing Wales.
