A community club in Twickenham hopes to provide easy access to a sport previously considered as an elite environment.
Twickenham Rowing Club are on a mission to find more people to join their community.
The club’s talent ID programme has produced rowers for the national team, but their latest drive is about a a value-added environment rather than a performance-based one.
Director of rowing Helen Brown, 30, said: “The members that are here, even if you are here to row once a week or just be here socially, they are equally as in important as those on the main stage.”
The club hopes to attract more state-school children and are building junior programmes.
It is a multi-generational space with a community kitchen, bar space and club rooms, and they’ve always opened their doors to people.
Brown started this role in January but has previously worked alongside the club in the talent ID programme, so this is a new position for both her and the club.
