A collection of bonsai trees fitted with treehouses are now on display as part of a new outdoor exhibition at Oxford Square Gardens.
Hosted by the Museum of Architecture, the Bonsai Treehouses exhibition explores the unusual challenge of building a treehouse sculpture for a bonsai tree.
More than 25 of the UK’s leading architectural practices responded to the brief and are featured in the exhibition alongside an array of bonsai trees – including a traditional Japanese maple ‘Shishigashira’ to a bonsai tree decorated entirely in Lego pieces.
Melissa Woolford, founder of the Museum of Architecture, said: “Each bonsai in the collection is unique, and we asked every architect to respond to that individuality – to design for the specific tree in front of them, not for a treehouse in the abstract.
“The results are surprising, thought-provoking, and genuinely fun to discover.”
The exhibit is part of the Museum of Architecture’s goal of finding new and innovative ways for the public to engage with architecture – combining contemporary culture with architecture to make it accessible for people of all ages.
