Non-League preview: Staines Town trip gives Sutton United perfect chance to revive season

Sutton United will hope to get back to winnings ways when they travel to bottom-of-the-table Staines Town on Saturday.

Sutton have lost two games on the trot against Gosport Borough and Weston-Super-Mare leaving them 15th in the table.

But after an enforced 11-day break in which last weekend’s game against leaders Bromley was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, they will fancy their chances against a team that has only won five games all season and look set for relegation.

Hampton & Richmond Borough travel to play second-bottom VCD Athletic in the Ryman Premier League.

After four straight defeats in league and cup, the Beavers surprised table-toppers Maidstone United 2-1 on Tuesday thanks to goals from debutant Jamie Calvin and Charlie Moone.

And manager Alan Dowson has urged his team to replicate their form against the high fliers when they face Athletic.

“We were delighted with Tuesday night but now we need to match what we do against the likes of Maidstone, Dulwich and Margate against the sides not up the top of the table,” he said.

Kingstonian host Margate after losing 2-1 to Bognor Regis Town on Monday night in a game that saw goalkeeper Rob Tolfrey involved in an altercation with fans at the final whistle.

In Ryman League Division One South, Corinthian Casuals travel to play Whyteleafe.

Corinthians won their last league game 2-0 away at relegation threatened Hastings United but face a tougher test against a team that sits in the last play-off spot.

Carshalton Athletic have lost their last three games and face a tough test when they travel to second-placed Faversham Town.

Also in Division One South, Walton Casuals face a trip to Ramsgate, a team just one point off the bottom of the table.

Tooting and Mitcham United will play Redhill at home after overcoming the Walton Casuals 4-1, while Walton & Hersham face a home tie against Burgess Hill Town.

In the Combined Counties League, Colliers Wood United are away at Farnham Town after a cup tie against Badshot Lea was postponed, while Raynes Park Vale play Guilford City at home.
