Chelsea facing legal challenge as Eva Carneiro leaves club following row with Jose Mourinho

Eva Carneiro left Chelsea yesterday with the Premier League champions bracing themselves for a possible legal battle.

The first team doctor, along with head physio Jon Fearn, were labelled impulsive and naive by Blues boss Jose Mourinho after they ran on to the pitch to treat in Eden Hazard in the final moments of the 2-2 draw with Swansea on the first day of the season.

It meant Chelsea were temporarily reduced to nine men, with goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois having earlier been sent off.

In the wake of Mourinho’s critisicm, the pair were demoted and no longer featured on the Chelsea bench during matches.

Carneiro was asked to return to work this week but decided not to do so and has instead left the club and is said to be considering her legal position.

The Football Association are also believed to be investigating a complaint that Mourinho used abusive or sexist language towards her during the incident.
