Katie Swan called her own performance ‘faultless’ as she breezed into the final of the LTA’s Lexus Surbiton Trophy.
The Bristol star, who is supported by the LTA’s Pro Access Programme, reached Sunday’s final with an emphatic 6-1 6-0 semi-final triumph over fellow Brit Lily Yuriko Miyazaki on Centre Court.
Swan started the week as British No.5 but will end it as No.1 if she beats Yanina Wickmayer in the showpiece.
Swan was sensational in the semi-final in stunning south-west London sunshine, storming to a comfortable straight-sets win.
“It feels great to be in the final, I played probably one of the best matches of my career so far,” said Swan.
“I am really excited to still be in the tournament and have a chance at the final.
“I had a pretty clear gameplan heading into the match and after how difficult yesterday was with having no rhythm, it was quite nice to have some normal balls coming at me today.
“Lily is a great player and to be honest I think I just played too well.
“Last time we played she won, so it is 1-1 and it could go either way. It is just a tough one because I was basically faultless.”
For Swan, the only blot on the copybook was defeat for compatriot Katie Boulter in the other semi-final.
Victory would have meant Boulter would end the LTA’s Lexus Surbiton Trophy as British No.1 but she went down to a 3-6 2-6 defeat to Wickmayer.
“I wanted Katie to win that match and I wanted to play her in the final because it would be great to have two Brits in the final and she is one of my really good friends,” said Swan.
“I think everyone is doing their best and I think that the British No.1 spot will probably fluctuate so I don’t know what is going to happen.
“I am just doing my best.”
