Match Report: Wolverhampton Wanderers 2 Queens Park Rangers 1

QPR fell just short in defeat against table-topping Wolves at Molineux.

The league leaders went ahead through Alfred N’Diaye and Helder Costa in the first half.

Yet QPR rallied and Conor Washington’s early second half goal set up a tense finale for the midlands side.

Wolves began with the intensity that has put them 13 points clear in the table, and had their goal after just 12 minutes.

Ivan Cavaleiro beat his man on the wing and midfielder N’Diaye popped up to turn the ball home.

QPR attempted to fight back, but John Ruddy was more than equal to Washington’s efforts.

The game looked to be heading towards a big score when Cavaleiro again weaved magic to allow Costa to tap home from close range.

But the half-time introduction of target man Matt Smith allowed QPR a route back into the game.

QPR are one of just four teams to have beaten Wolves this season, and they started to show considerably more resolve as the game went on.

Washington wasn’t to be denied when he produced an intelligent finish past Ruddy.

QPR continued to push for an unlikely equaliser, with Eberechi Eze having a shot cleared from the line and Wszolek denied again by Ruddy.

Yet despite a valiant effort, the Hoops suffered another defeat that leaves them 15th in the table.
