Team GB men’s rugby sevens team to face off with Japan side who stunned New Zealand in Rio 2016

Great Britain’s men’s rugby sevens team face a Japan side tonight that defeated favourites New Zealand this afternoon.

The lone Asian side in the Olympic sevens were seen as the underdogs in pool C, before beating a New Zealand side containing Sonny Bill Williams 14-12 in a close encounter this afternoon.

Team GB will have to watch out for the danger-men Kameli Soejima and Lomano Lemeki, who scored 15 and 13 tries respectively during the last sevens series in Rio.

It was 33-year-old Soejima who scored a try with a minute remaining against New Zealand to complete the upset.

Earlier Great Britain, inspired by Putney’s in-form Dan Bibby, easily swept aside Kenya in their opening match, winning 31-7.

Bibby, 25, scored tries either side of the half time break after Dan Norton scored the opener.

You can catch Team GB’s match against Japan at 9pm tonight.
