Television news viewing figures decline as audiences turn to digital platforms

The latest Reuters digital news report shows an increasing shift of people consuming news via social media, diminishing the influence of traditional journalism.

Digital Reporter Sam Leader said: “People don’t want to sit down at a scheduled time anymore.

“We, as journalists, have to adapt to this new way of consuming news.

“I do think linear will eventually phase out.”

Television producers Abby Titmuss and Aishah Rahman explained storytelling techniques need to be utilised and adapted for digital platforms to reach news consumers with shorter attention spans.

Concerns were also raised surrounding misinformation online, where opinions are often presented as fact without verification.
