‘I have been severely let down’: young women demand better policing in London

Young women are demanding better policing in London as YouGov data reveals the percentage of people aged 18-24 who believe the police are doing a good job has declined dramatically.

The death of 33-year-old Sarah Everard in March was a key event in some women losing trust in the police.

Dorothy Reddin, 22, said: “The police failed to protect Sarah Everard, and the response to the Clapham Common vigil was disgraceful. It’s undermined the trust women have in the police to protect us.”

Hundreds attended a vigil at Clapham Common on 13 March to share their anger at Everard’s death.

Several arrests were made at the vigil which sparked more protests as many demand better policing in London to keep women safe.
