A woman appeared in court this morning accused of racial harassment on a Croydon to Wimbledon tram.

Emma West, 34, of Grenville Crescent, New Addington, gave only her name and address at Croydon Magistrates Court and will return on December 6.

She was remanded in custody for a week pending psychiatric evaluation having been arrested yesterday and detained overnight.

Police charged Ms West after a video uploaded to Youtube showed a woman with a child on her lap allegedly making racist comments to other passengers.

The suspect was arrested after British Transport Police appealed to the media to publicise the video to help identify her following complaints made by the public.
