Mitcham man charged with murder over university lecturer stabbing

A 37-year-old Mitcham man has been charged with the murder of university lecturer Daniel Young.

Mark Loveridge, of Borough Road, was charged with Mr Young’s murder in Kendor Gardens on January 19 and also causing grievous bodily harm to a 23-year-old man who was stabbed in the buttocks.

He will appear via virtual court at Bromley Magistrates’ Court today.

Prior to Loveridge’s arrest a 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and wasting police time while another 35-year-old was detained earlier this month on suspicion of murder.

Both are now on bail.

Detective Superintendent Paul Monk, of the Homicide and Major Crime Command, said: “I reiterate that random attacks of this nature are thankfully rare in London, however we keep an open mind and at this early stage are not ruling out any line of enquiry.”
