A sausage dog bit more than he could chew when he snapped at Lembit Opik’s groin during an event in Lambeth Park this week.

Former Liberal Democrat MP Opik, 48, was pounced on by the Daschshund during a dog show he was judging in the aid of the charity ‘Guide Dogs’.

Mr Opik has been moonlighting as a stand-up comedian, wrestler, music manager, and has also appeared as a reality television contestant on ITV’s ‘I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here’ since he lost his Parliamentary seat in 2010.

Mr Opik said: “Nothing had prepared me for one frisky four-legged ‘friend’ which insisted on taking a bad-tempered munch on my meat and two veg.

“I haven’t felt this violated since being passed up for a peerage by Nick Clegg.”

This is not the first time that Mr Opik has suffered at the jaws of an animal, after he was famously bitten by a snake during his stint in the Australian jungle.

He was treated in the medical tent after this week’s unfortunate incident.

Bystanders said he was in good spirits but was understandably experiencing difficulty walking.

Mr Opik has since tweeted about the injury and is pursuing compensation from the owners.
