Cycle Sisters is a community organisation encouraging Muslim women to cycle by staging sociable group rides across London.

The initiative seeks to overcome barriers Muslim women face when cycling, such as concerns around safety and Islamophobia or questions about how to find appropriate clothing to wear whilst cycling.

Founded by Sarah Javaid, Cycle Sisters over the past six years allowed many Muslim women across London to discover cycling as an important part of their everyday life – even during Ramadan.

The organisation now has over 1,000 members and organises more than 300 rides across nine boroughs every year.

Ruma Parvin, 33, learned to cycle six years ago and through Cycle Sisters became a ride leader for Wandsworth and Lambeth
