Tennis serves up a treat for traders in Centre Court

Hats and flip-flops have been flying off Wimbledon shelves as tennis tourists look for appropriate clothing.

Accessorize in Centre Court reported a spike in tourists looking for suitable items to stay cool at the Championships.

Shoe shop Ecco said it had increased its profits during the peak tennis period. Store manager Miranda Cayolle, 26, said: “The footfall had increased as there were more visitors, mainly Chinese.”

Krispy Kreme kiosk in Centre Court also said it had seen a significant increase in tourists. Peta Wakelin, 44, said: “We are a relatively new business, but I can see the effects of the tennis season this year.”

She had also seen a boost from teachers and students buying doughnuts as presents at the end of the school year.
