Chefs set to cook up a storm and showcase global delicacies during Collier’s Wood food festival

Eclectic eateries from across south west London will descend on Merton Abbey Mills to showcase a mouth-watering array of global delicacies this weekend.

Collier’s Wood Arts Festival’s is set to host the first International Food Festival which will feature Indian, Thai, Greek and Brazilian food.

Award-winning Caribbean chef, Garfield, of Merton-based Ting n Ting and Time & Leisure Magazine’s Food and Drink Awards’ winner Najma’s will be just a couple of the chefs showcasing their skills.

Shermin Ali, Owner of Najma’s , who will be at the event this year for the first time, said: “For me it’s really important  to get to these local events because my business is home-run, so I think it’s great.”

She will be cooking up lunchtime Indian favorites like biryani on her stall and hopes the festival will promote the area as well as making residents aware of the exciting cuisine on their doorstep.

“I really think the area has the potential to a mini Camden, but local businesses really need to take the risk and go there,” she added. “I’m really looking forward to it!”

There will also be live music from acoustic reggae artist Marcus Raja, as well as other artists from the Merton Abbey Mills organization The Sound Lounge.

The festival will run from 11am-4pm as part the wider Colliers Wood Arts Festival, which promotes music, dance, word and art, and is running until April 5.
