By Emma Birkett and Lucy Elder

A talented young poet will be performing his work at New Wimbledon Studio this week.

Alex Gwyther, 26, of Colliers Wood will be performing a stage adaptation of his poem Our Friends,The Enemy.

The poem focuses on events leading up to and surrounding the Christmas Truce that took place on Christmas Day 1914, told through the eyes of Private James Boyce.

Next year marks the Centenary of the outbreak of World War One and the fabled Christmas Truce.

Alex, who is a spoken word artist and language teacher as well as a writer, spoke of his hope for the play.

“My dream would be to perform it on the First World War Battlefields in Belgium and France,” he said.

He has already performed the piece to a crowd of over a thousand people at Trafalgar Square as part of the London Week of Peace and is set to take his performance to the Edinburgh Festival later this year.

The show starts at 7.45pm and runs from  February 27 until March 2. For tickets visit http://www.atgtickets.com/shows/our-friends-the-enemy/new-wimbledon-studio/
