Paranoid schizophrenic with history of violence escapes from Tooting mental health hospital

A extensive search is underway for a paranoid schizophrenic who absconded from a mental health hospital in Tooting on Saturday evening.

This is the second time that Mark Ricketts, 47, has escaped from Springfield Hospital, the first in 2004 when he was on a day visist from Broadmoor Hospital.

He does not have his medication with him, and police are warning the public not to approach him.

Ricketts stabbed stranger Mark Kemp in the stomach with a kitchen knife at Tooting Broadway station in 1993.

He is described as black, 6ft 2ins and of large build, and was wearning a blue tracksuit top and bottoms and black trainers when he went missing.

Anyone who sees him should call 999 immediately.
