With the High Court set to hear the challenge to the proscription of Palestine Action tomorrow, hundreds of protestors have gathered across London as counter-terror powers are put under national scrutiny.
Organised by Defend Our Juries, an organisation that presents itself as a supporter of ‘collective action to expose the corruption of democracy’, two protests were held this weekend in central London.
Palestine Action was officially proscribed as a terrorist organisation under the Terrorism Act 2000 in July earlier this year, with the government continuing to uphold the decision.
The decision has proved controversial, with over 2,300 people having been arrested for protesting the ban over the course of the year.
The Campaign Against Antisemitism continues to defend the proscription, where a spokesperson said: “Palestine Action is a violent extremist organisation whose entire model is built on criminal damage, intimidation and disruption.
“This is the kind of behaviour the proscription framework is designed to address.
“The Government must not fold under pressure and should continue to treat Palestine Action as a terrorist organisation to protect the public and uphold the rule of law.”
Protestors here have disagreed, expressing hope that the proscription will be overturned.
