Kidney Care UK to host Christmas concert at Leadenhall Market

A leading UK kidney patient support charity will host its inaugural Christmas concert at Leadenhall Market.

Kidney Care UK will launch the concert on the evening of Friday 15th December, featuring the likes of Radio 1 Xtra’s DJ Ace, a kidney transplant recipient, accompanied by the Black Living Donor Choir, a musical choir created to raise awareness of living donation in the Black African Caribbean community.

The concert will hope to join the spirit of Christmas with the gift of life for an unforgettable evening of music and festive fun in front of the Leadenhall Market Christmas tree.

Senior fundraiser at Kidney Care UK Karen Sanderson said: ‘’We’re looking forward to being able to raise the profile of kidney disease and the life changing impact that organ donation and transplantation can have.

‘’Being able to celebrate this and also raise money to help the kidney community will be a fantastic way to start the festive season.

‘’We’re delighted to be hosting this concert in such an incredible space and with such wonderful performers and guests.’’

Roughly 7.2m people are estimated to have chronic kidney disease stages 1-5, while over 70,000 people in the UK are being treated for kidney failure.

Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities are five times more at risk to develop chronic kidney disease than other groups, and Dela Idowu, founder of the Black Living Donor Choir, voiced her hope that the concert will raise awareness of kidney disease in the general public.

She said: ‘’We are looking forward to our first Christmas concert.

‘’Music has the power to draw people in.

‘’We know strokes, we know cancer but not a lot of people know about kidney disease.

‘’It’s a great opportunity to raise awareness or shine a light on the disease that affects millions of people in the UK.’’

The concert will start at 6:30pm at Leadenhall Market on the evening of Friday 15th December and will last approximately one hour.

Following the concert attendees can visit the brand-new Leadenhall Market bar, The Golden Goose, for an after-party DJed by DJ Ace.

Tickets are limited but can be found here.
