The exciting race between red and blue was narrowly won by the Labour Party early this morning.

Out of the 46 seats available, Labour won 26 and the Conservatives won 20 in a very tight race for the control of the Prime Minister’s favourite council.

In Addison, Avonmore and Brook Green and Fulham Reach, the race between Conservatives and Labour were especially tight.

Labour needed to take nine seats in order to swing the vote and they succeeded by taking 11 from the Tories who lost their hold on key wards such as Fulham Broadway and North End.

In the last council, Conservatives had 31 of the seats and Labour 15.

The latter inched past to win with 41.9% share of the vote against the Tories at 38.1%.

The average turnout for the elections in Hammersmith and Fulham was 38%, just over half of 2010’s general election that saw an overall turnout of 62%.

Ravenscourt Park was the ward that had the highest turnout with almost half of its constituents voting(49.30%) whilst College Oak and Old Park ward had the lowest at 31.74%.

The Green Party consistently had more votes than the Liberal Democrats in the wards where they had candidates, with the Green Party even doubling the number of votes in Shepherd’s Bush, Ravenswood Park, College and Old Oak and Askew.

Newer party NHA, which has received backing by comedian Rufus Hound who is standing as MEP of the party, also received more votes than the Liberal Democrats in Munster.

UKIP did not gain any seats nor were they close to obtaining one in any of the wards in the borough.
