Brixton man shot by police after seven-hour siege

A man is in a critical condition after being shot by police following a seven-hour siege in Brixton yesterday.

The incident took place at an address in Tilson Gardens during a pre-planned eviction being carried out by a Lambeth housing officer.

At around 9.45am unarmed officers, along with the council’s housing officer, attempted to enter the property and evict the man.

Officers withdrew after the man emerged from the address and a police negotiator, London Ambulance Service and firearm officers were called to the scene.

The man was shot by police outside of the premises at around 4.46pm.

He was treated at the scene and  has been taken to a south London hospital suffering serious injuries.

Officers from the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards (DPS) have been informed and this incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) who has started an independent investigation.
