Climate protest group Fossil Free London have been staging an unusual campaign outside the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero – using dance as a form of protest.
The demonstrations, which began on 20 October, aim to draw attention to the Rosebank oil field – the UK’s largest undeveloped oil and gas discovery – and apply pressure on the government to reject the project.
Activists claim approving Rosebank would not only undermine the government’s climate commitments, but also exacerbate climate and cost-of-living issues in the UK and further.
The Londoners headed to the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) to hear from protesters on the scene.
A DESNZ spokesperson said: “Our priority is to deliver a fair, orderly and prosperous transition in the North Sea in line with our climate and legal obligations, which drives our clean energy future of energy security, lower bills, and good, long-term jobs.”
