New Wimbledon Theatre is hosting a coffee morning next Friday to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Relief.

Theatre staff will be battling it out to see who is the best baker, and all are welcome to come and pick up a cake in the foyer or to enjoy it with a coffee in the piano bar.

General Manager Gavin Shuman said he was delighted to be hosting the event.

“We look forward to some good-natured competition between our various departments from Front of House to Technical, he said.

Many members of our team have been affected by cancer in some way shape or form and we consider it an honour to be able to help raise money that will provide practical, medical and financial support for better cancer care.

The morning will also include a raffle with the chance to win theatre tickets for one of the up and coming shows. All proceeds will go to Macmillan Cancer Relief, the largest cancer care and support charity in the UK.

The Macmillan Coffee Morning event started in 1990, when a local fundraising committee decided to hold a coffee morning. Since then it has raised over £75 million in total for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Many celebrities have been involved with the campaign and hosted their own recipes for delicious cakes on the Macmillan website, including comedian Jo Brand who will star in the theatre’s pantomime this Christmas.
