South west Londoners urged to get flu and Covid-19 vaccines this winter

Eligible South West Londoners are being encouraged to get ‘winter-strong’ by becoming vaccinated against the flu and Covid-19 this winter.

Vaccinations are being pushed ahead of the festive season when both viruses are expected to peak.

Nearly 250,000 people have already received the flu vaccine in South West London, whilst almost 17,000 have taken up the Covid-19 booster jab.

At-risk groups including the pregnant and those with ongoing health conditions are being especially encouraged to get vaccinated.

TV doctor and media personality Dr Zoe Williams is leading the national campaign to increase vaccinations that launched at the start of this month.

The campaign is also encouraging parents of children aged between 2 and 3 years old to get their children vaccinated to avoid viral infections this winter.

There are thousands of sites open across south west London and eligible adults can book both vaccines online or through the NHS app quickly.

NHS teams are delivering Covid seasonal jabs at around 100 pharmacies in Merton, Wandsworth, Kingston, Richmond, Sutton and Croydon as well as in local community clinics and GP surgeries.

Wandsworth GP Dr Nicola Jones said: “Getting the flu and Covid vaccines can help prepare your immune system, helping to make you winter strong and better able to fight off these illnesses if they come your way.

“If you are eligible, it’s because you are at higher risk of severe illness, so now is the time to get protected, before winter arrives.”

Vaccinations can be booked via the NHS website, by downloading the NHS app or by calling 119 for free if they cannot get online.

The complete list of those eligible for the vaccinations is available here.
