All Londoners and visitors will be able to enjoy unlimited 60-minute rides every Sunday in July.
Returning again this year, the scheme dubbed TfL Cycle Sundays aims to encourage more people to take up cycling, and to try out environmentally-friendly electric bikes, by giving them a free Santander Day Pass.
The scheme bookended London Climate Action Week, an event which encouraged local communities to take action on climate change.
In a statement to the SWL, Will Norman, the Mayor of London’s Walking and Cycling Commissioner, said: “The Mayor and I encourage everyone – especially those new to cycling – to take up these free Sunday bike rides and to use our cycle routes to travel around our great city as we continue building a safer, greener, better London for all.”
There are more than 50 routes, including beginner-friendly routes for those new to cycling, as well as leisure ride routes, and cycle training tips all on the TfL Cycle Sundays app.
The scheme provides the £3.50 Day Pass for free by redeeming a code at any Santander docking station, giving customers unlimited 60-minutes rides within a 24-hour period.
To access the codes head to the Santander Cycles discount page or the Santander Cycles app.
Partners such as Bikeworks, Newlane, Our Bike, Try Before You Bike, and Local Buyers Club are also providing special discounts and links to their events, which can be found on the TfL Cycle Sundays website.
Melissa Noakes, Head of Sponsorship and Events at Santander UK, said: “Unlimited 60-minute free rides on Sundays in July help incentivise people to explore the capital and experience everything it has to offer in the summer.”
TfL has also partnered with Strava and komoot to make it easier to discover, plan, track and enjoy leisure cycling routes across London. A full list of routes are available free of charge via the TfL Cycle Sundays Club on both apps.
Strava also contributes to Strava Metro an anonymised, aggregated, free dataset that supports TfL in planning safer, smarter cycling routes.
This scheme fits into TfL’s continued investment into growing the Cycleways network to make cycling safer and more accessible for people of all ages and abilities.
