Decathlon tackles single use tents with Summer Tent Pledge

Decathlon’s Summer Tent Pledge returns for a second year, offering a full refund on all tents sold before festival season.

From June 9 to September 14, you can purchase any Decathlon brand tent, either online or in-store, including tents across the Quechua and Simond ranges, and once you’re done using it, simply return the tent to any Decathlon store nationwide in exchange for a gift card of equal value.

Broadcaster and festival goer Vick Hope supports the pledge

This initiative aims to reduce the 250,000 tents left behind at UK festivals every year, with each one containing as much plastic as 9,000 straws or 200 bottles.

This marks a major step towards a eco-conscious festival culture in the UK.

Decathlon UK sustainability leader Chris Allen said: “This is about driving systemic change and changing camping culture for the better.”

Popular broadcaster, author and festival enthusiast Vick Hope has praised the initiative. She said: “Whether you’re dancing at Glasto, on a hilltop, or roasting marshmallows with family, your tent deserves more than one weekend of glory. Decathlon’s Pledge is brilliant because it simplifies doing the right thing!”

A social activation named ‘Flag The Pledge’ will run alongside the Summer Tent Pledge, where circular designers will promote the repurposing of old tents into vibrant, oversized flags, reinforcing the message that recycling is always better than landfill.

So, whether you’re heading to Glastonbury this summer or planning a weekend getaway, make sure to camp smart and give your tent a second life.
