Police patrols increased after serious sexual assault in Tooting, residents warned to take care at night

Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious sexual assault which took place in Tooting at the weekend.

The attack was carried out on Charlmont Road, near the junction with Himley Road, at approximately 2.30am on Saturday June 8.

The suspect is described as a black male between 25 and 30 years old. He was said to be around six feet tall, wearing baggy clothing and a dark coloured body warmer, and had a South London accent.

Officers would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have witnessed the offence

Police patrols in the area are being stepped up and will be increased at local transport hubs over coming weeks.

They advised people to take care when walking late at night and to use safe, well lit routes whenever possible.
