A group of budding student filmmakers are taking part in a project that will see them debut their work at the BFI Film Festival in June.
A group of 15 bilingual students fluent in Estonian, Russian and French from Hyde Park School in Kensington are partaking in the six-month programme run by Goldsmiths University.
The scheme focuses on how multilingual story telling can play a beneficial role in education and aims to develop literacy and language abilities.
“It has been fantastic to see their enthusiasm, passion and engagement with the project so far and we’re incredibly excited to see the result in June,” said Hyde Park School headmistress, Mrs Hilary Wyatt.
“We’re lucky enough to have a number of bilingual students at Hyde Park who have been able to share their experiences, culture and heritage whilst also learning valuable new digital and filmmaking skills.”
The promising filmmakers will be aided through their project in a series of workshops hosted by tutors at Goldsmiths University and the BFI.
Dominika Gordon, an EIL teacher at Hyde Park, said: “Students were selected on their mother tongue and we want to encourage them to be creative with their ideas.
“So far only research has started on the project, but the students are already learning the basics of working with cameras and are already really enjoying it.”
