Ahoy, sailor! Nicole Scherzinger cuts ribbon at London Boat Show

Nicole Scherzinger made a star turn as nautical southwest London businesses joined more than 450 exhibitors for the opening of the London Boat Show.

The current Cats star and former X-Factor judge injected a touch of glamour to proceedings at the ExCel London as she cut the ribbon on a new Sunseeker yacht.

Cosmos Yachting, a charter yacht company based in Barnes, and cruising satellite communication specialists MailASail of Merton were present to showcase their services.

“The Boat Show is a great place to actually see, touch and smell these boats, something you cant do via an internet site,” said Frank Ziehe, managing director of Cosmos Yachting.

Other star attractions include Wandsworth-born Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, the first person to sail single-handed and non-stop around the world, and sailing legend Ben Ainslie.

As well as million-pound yachts and creaky sailing boats, the show featured a 4D Experience which allowed guests to challenge the nautical conditions, ranging from the freezing Arctic to the sunny Tropics.

Murray Ellis, managing director of the London Boat Show, said the show appeals to guests of all abilities and budgets.

He said: “You can buy a boat up to £20million or down to £300, so visitors of all sorts of budgets, all budgets, there is something here for everybody.”

The show also includes live updates from the third leg of the Volvo Ocean Race in Abu Dhabi, which pro sailor and Sky Sports sailing pundit Pete Cumming described as ‘the Everest of Yacht racing’.
