We’re doing what we love: Real Voices of Tooting choir raises money for Royal Trinity Hospice

A Tooting choir performed an evening of music and melodies to raise money for Royal Trinity Hospice last month.

The 50-strong Real Voices of Tooting choir, aged from 20-70, entertained the Balham audience with ballads, r’n’b and pop/rock classics.

Every year, each choir from the collective Real Voices from Battersea, Brixton, Clapham, Tooting and Vauxhall holds evenings to play favourite anthems and recent chart smashes.

Real Voices founder Becky Chalmers said: “The best thing about being the choir is seeing the difference it makes to people’s lives – it’s just mind blowing!”

We are voices was founded three years ago in Vauxhall, when Becky realised how much music and singing meant to her.

Real voices of Tooting musical director Ellie Pybus described the night as ‘ecstatic and bloody brilliant’.

She added: “Everyone complains about their hard week at work so it’s nice to all come together and entertain people by doing what we love.”

The Royal Trinity Hospice was the chosen charity – some members of the audience worked there and had relatives there.

The hospice provides people with progressive life-limiting illnesses care and support throughout their treatments.

An attendee from the audience said: “I truly underestimated the night. Hearing Mumford and Sons again gave me nostalgia, I thoroughly enjoyed every bit.”

All Royal Trinity Hospice services are provided free of charge to patients and their families. The hospice receives only a quarter of its funding from the NHS and relies on donations to raise the remaining amount – over £11 million every year – that is needed for services to continue.
