Joanne McCartney, Labour candidate and a deputy mayor to Sadiq Khan, has condemned the Tory narrative on ULEZ policies.
This follows suggestion from Conservative candidate Susan Hall on X (formerly Twitter) that Khan would charge motorists for every mile they drive.
The Ultra Low Emission Zone, a London transport scheme designed to reduce air pollution, has been heavily criticised by the Conservative party.
Sadiq Khan, who expanded the ULEZ to cover every London borough last summer, has ruled out road user price charging in his manifesto.
She said: “It was disappointing to see the Tories saying that would happen.
“If I’ve got a concern about the future election, it’s around disinformation because as the Tory party moves further to the right – that sort of Trumpian style of politics – we’re going to see a lot more of it.”
As the current representative of Enfield and Haringey, Joanne McCartney is running again for the 2024 London assembly election.
She aims to improve things for young people, notably housing and the free school meal programme.
She said: “I’ve got three children in their 20s and I’m wondering how they’re going to buy in London – so I’m really pleased about Sadiq’s pledge of 40,000 extra council homes but also the real opportunity of a Labour government who’ve said they’re going to build 1.5m affordable homes.
Policing and safety are also big priorities, with funding allocated to crime prevention and youth services through working with many secondary schools and voluntary organisations.
McCartney has served as a member of the London Assembly since 2004, and in 2016, she broke records by winning by a margin of 51,152 votes.
The count began this morning, with results for Enfield and Haringey due around 5pm.
