Tickets are still available for the critically acclaimed Sleeping Beauty when it visits New Wimbledon Theatre at the end of this month.

Direct from a successful season at Sadler’s Wells, Matthew Bourne’s production sees the choreographer return to the music of Tchaikovsky to complete the trio of the composer’s ballet masterworks that started in 1992 with Nutcracker! followed in 1995 by Swan Lake.

The tale of a young girl cursed to sleep for 100 years is brought to life by a star studded cast, including Hannah Vassallo and Ashley Shaw, who will play the role of Princess Aurora. As well as taking on roles in Nutcracker! and Play Without Words, Hannah also starred as Baby in the West End production of Dirty Dancing for over two years. Ashley has played the title role in Matthew Bourne’s Cinderella and ‘Sugar’ in Nutcracker!

Other established performers include Dominic North, nominated as Outstanding Male Dancer at the National Dance Awards for his performance as Edward Scissorhands, and Christopher Trenfield, both of whom will play the leading role of Leo.

The cast are also joined by Liam Mower, the Olivier Award-winning original star of the West End hit Billy Elliot.

Bourne takes 1890, the year Tchaikovsky turned the story into a legendary ballet, as the starting point for his production – setting the Christening of Aurora in the year of the ballet’s first performance.

Beginning at the height of the Fin-de-Siecle period when faries and vampires fed the gothic imagination, we move forwards in time to the more rigid Edwardian era. Years later, awakening from her century long slumber, Aurora finds herself in the modern day, a world more wonderful than any fairy story!

The show runs from Tuesday April 23 – Saturday April 27. Tickets cost £15 – £33.50 and can be bought from  http://www.atgtickets.com/wimbledon or by phoning the box office on 0844 871 7646.
