Beloved comedian Milton Jones will speak at St Stephen’s Church in Twickenham on Sunday as part of its 150th Anniversary celebrations.
The church has been a pillar of the local community since its establishment, and today attracts in excess of 400 people across three services every Sunday.
Jones, who has recently recovered from prostate cancer, is making a special visit to his regular church for a sold-out event this weekend, where he will share stories on his life, journey with God, and comedy career.
St Stephen’s curate Lauren Talbot, 35, said: “Milton is one of our congregation, so we see him lots.
“We’re looking forward to hearing more of his story.”
St Stephen’s was built after the nearby Montpellier Chapel was deemed too small due to the area’s expanding population.
Funds were approved for the larger church on Richmond Road in 1873, with the foundations finished in December 1875.
This year’s milestone is being recognised with a series of events, including last week’s community family fun day, and even a nearby postbox has been decorated for the occasion.
This week, an interactive exhibition exploring the church’s past, present and future is running from Monday to Friday.
Talbot said: “It’s been really popular. It’s been fun with people in the area who see the church, but don’t know much about it.
“We’re hopeful that more and more people will come as the week goes on.”
The exhibition is open to the public from 10am-1pm and 3.30-8pm on Thursday, and 10am-4pm on Friday.
