If you are someone who would like to celebrate Black History Month but you can’t attend any in-person events, fear not.
Many online events have also been scheduled to take place this month in the spirit of inclusivity, something the organisers of this year’s celebration find invaluable.
The official website for Black History Month has many events that you can take part in, all from the comfort of your own home.
Allyship
A Cultural Competence Training Event will be taking place on Monday 10 of October and aims to increase awareness of different cultures within the workplace and other areas of life.
The training event will be delivered via Zoom and hosts include psychotherapists, psychodynamic CBT-trained therapists and psychoanalysts.
A webinar entitled Next Steps in Allyship will be taking place for inclusion and diversity professionals, HR business partners, line managers and anyone with an interest in learning how to be actively anti-racist, on 17 October.
Tickets must be booked for this event.
In line with National Braille Awareness week, a one hour seminar on Partial Sight and Blind Awareness will be held on 7 October.
The event is targeted towards professionals who can discover the skills needed to ensure disability discrimination is a thing of the past.
Virtual Tours
On Wednesday 15 October a virtual tour will be taking place via Zoom with a specific focus on Frederick Douglass’ impact in the UK and in Ireland.
A Virtual Black American Women Tour of London is available on the 6th of October.
Both of these events are being offered by the same organisation.
They are offering some alternative tours and dates that are not confined to the month of October.

For Bookworms
On Wednesday 5th of October a session titled ‘Books about dead Black people don’t sell!’ by the Society of Authors will be held.
This aims to highlight the importance of telling stories of Black culture and heritage through embarking on discussions of colorism and everyday sexism still prevalent in society today.
A virtual small group will discuss Emmanuel Acho’s book Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man on the 26th of October via Zoom.
Coming next month
Although Black History Month has been officially designated the month of October, the official organisers have made it known it is their goal to ensure Black history is celebrated all year round.
In November there are two more online events taking place.
On November 11th, via Zoom, in order to commemorate Remembrance Day an event to remember the Black servicewomen and men is being offered to the public.
Remembering Britain’s Black Servicemen and Servicewomen with author S.I Martin to explore the legacies and stories that remain hidden in the shadows.
Black Girls Global Tech Summit on the 16 and 17 November, sponsored by Goldman Sachs, is a free online event that is aimed at young Black women that are thinking about a future in the technology sector.
The event will enable networking opportunities and face-to-face meetings with tech giant recruiters.
