More than one in ten mothers experience postpartum depression according to the NHS and exercise is often recommended as a form of treatment.
However, there are not many classes available for new mums to attend where the focus is on their health and wellbeing rather than their baby’s.
But in Hampton, Lauren Greenwood has become a women’s health specialist pilates instructor, and even founded her own studio.
Greenwood said: “In terms of fighting postpartum anxiety and depression, if you’re able to exercise and move your body, and feel like you’re making progress healing your body, it’s hugely beneficial in terms of your mental health.
“It’s really important because it also gives you an hour to focus on yourself, because a lot of baby classes are for baby.
“Whereas they come here and do yoga, aerobics, or pilates, it’s about making you the priority.”
