Black Sheep Coffee has unveiled a bold new Spring menu, bringing a playful, banana-powered twist to its drinks and food offering with the launch of its new range.
Launching on 18 March, the limited-time ‘Banana Arcade’ menu was created to tap into nostalgia, with the coffee chain describing it as “pressing start on spring with a menu designed to level up every sip.”
Inspired by the arcade culture of the 1980s, the range blends comfort and texture, aiming to offer customers a light-hearted escape from the mundane everyday life.
I started with the iced banana latte, which the menu describes as a “smooth, chilled hit of nostalgic sweetness.”
The banana and salted caramel come through first, then the espresso follows, giving it more depth than you might expect from something that could easily feel gimmicky.
Next up was the coffee and banana frappe, which is easily the most dessert-like drink on the menu.
It is rich, heavy and probably not an everyday order, but it is the kind of thing you get when you want something comforting rather than functional.
On the food side, I tried the honey mustard chicken wrap.
Described as “built for lunch-time wins”, it does the job. It’s convenient, filling and easy to eat on the go, even if it does not match the creativity of the drinks.
I also tried both wraps, starting with the honey mustard chicken. It’s slightly sweet, slightly sharp, and filling enough without being heavy.
It does what you expect, even if it does not stand out as much as the drinks.
I much preferred the Vietnamese-style chicken wrap. The slaw adds crunch and the coriander lifts it, giving it a bit more of a fresher and lighter feel.
For dessert, I ended with the raspberry and pistachio acai bowl.
It is fresh, slightly tart and cuts through the heavier drinks well. The pistachio adds texture, while the raspberries keep it from feeling too sweet, making it one of the more balanced options overall.
Overall, the Banana Arcade range is playful and surprisingly well-balanced, and whether or not banana coffee becomes your go-to, it is hard not to appreciate a menu that commits to the bit this much.
