London’s Royal Festival Hall is one of many London arts venues working hard to encourage more young people to attend classical music concerts.
An ageing audience and the rising cost of tickets have meant that arts organisations have begun to target a younger generation of concertgoers.
As part of this effort, the Philharmonia Orchestra have offered reduced tickets prices for students, including for a concert on 19 February featuring Anton Bruckner’s Symphony no. 7, conducted by Lawrence Renes.
For Luke Jensen-Jones, 22, this was his first time attending a classical music concert at the Royal Festival Hall.
Speaking to the Londoners, he said: “It was quite an experience, and I am sure I will be coming back.”
For concert regular Lukas Ruediger, 23, this was one of his best experiences listening to the Philharmonia Orchestra.
“I think it is a real shame many people my age think classical music is not for them,” he said.
