Leadenhall Market celebrated its 16th Pancake Day with their annual pancake race.
Hosted by The Lamb Tavern, the race sees two teams of four racing against each other, sprinting down a 20 metre track with the aim to flip the pancakes in their pans at least three times for a chance to win a pan with their team name engraved on a golden plaque.
Otherwise known as Shrove Tuesday, Pancake Day historically and religiously indicates the day before the Lent fasting period, originating as a way to quickly get rid of luxury goods, though it has now turned into a spectacle for young and old alike.
Ashtyn Fink, a visitor of the race, said: “We actually thought we might try to enter it next year.
“It’s fantastic!”
Pancake races will make their return next year – and surely many more will be looking for a chance to upgrade from spectator to participant.
